How do you prevent nail polish from chipping?

Any tips? I get sick of it chipping because it looks messy and it gets annoying to always touch it up. I only wear light colours like pink. How do you prevent nail polish from chipping?
Wipe nails with rubbing alcohol to make sure your nail beds are clean and free of residue, such as lotion and, obviously, left-over nail polish.

File your nails and make sure you do not have any rough edges or uneven nail surfaces around the tips.

Apply a nourishing base coat and no more than two coats of polish (the thicker it is, the more likely it is to peel right off).

Make sure you brush on a protective, chip resistant topcoat, and repeat this step every other day to keep your color sealed.

Remove and reapply your polish once a week. No manicure, whether you do it at home or go to a salon for one, lasts forever. How do you prevent nail polish from chipping?
