How do you get your nail polish to go on smooth?

I would love to paint my nails, but I can never seem to get the nail polish on without it streaking - too thin in some parts and too thick in others. What the heck am I doing wrong? Any tips or tricks? How do you get your nail polish to go on smooth?
use a base..or try buffing the nail first

good luckHow do you get your nail polish to go on smooth?
1. Make sure your nails are prepped (free of oils and old polish etc). Apply a base coat (I like Sephora by OPI).

2. Dip your brush into the polish, then wipe the sides against the edge of the bottle, so that there is an even amount on the brush.

3. Lie your nails on a flat surface (table, desk, even a book)

4. Paint one stripe down the center of your nail, then one either side. You only need three strips to cover your entire nail surface.

5. Use your top coat - and don't move for 20 minutes until it's really set (stick your hands in a basin filled with cold water if you can't wait.

Ry.
To get that high glossy look that most models have you do need to apply more than one coat. Shake the bottle first, and do one hand at a time. Wait for the first coat to dry before applying a second or third. Run the brush down the center of your finger nail. On smaller fingers this will be enough to cover the entire nail. on larger nails again the center then along each side. Don't worry about getting the polish on your skin as it will peel off with just a little warm water.
maybe its the nail polish you using

OPI is rlly good, you can go to ulta or sephora to buy it. And China Glaze is good too, you can go to sallys beauty supply and find them there ;]
